Program Unistem Day Sapienza<\/a> The project has been closed by the participation of the students to the roman edition of the\u00a0Unistem Day 2013<\/strong>, held simultaneously at the Universities Sapienza and Tor Vergata. The double event was done through a live\u00a0streaming, which allowed students present in both locations, to listen to the opening lecture given by Professor Giuseppe Novelli. At the\u00a0Sapienza University, the debate has focused more on the scientific aspects of stem cell research and its implications in the field of therapies, while at the University of Tor Vergata the discussion has also addressed the issue of the relationship between science communication and the public, from the point of view of both researchers and\u00a0science journalists. A special talk\u00a0of Marco Paolini was live-streamed\u00a0to all the universities participating in the initiative.<\/p>\n The event is part of an initiative which involved 35 Italian universities, coordinated by the Unistem<\/a><\/strong> Group at the University of Milan. \nGo back to the main page “Paths on Stem Cells<\/strong>“<\/em><\/a> [\/vc_column]\n[vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]The project involved a group of high schools from the roman area and was carried out through structured activities, with phases of study and discussion in presence or remotely, experimental activities, creating collaborative groups from\u00a0different schools\u00a0or within the same school\u00a0on different aspects.<\/p>\n
\nAfter that, both universities\u00a0hosted a debate\u00a0between students and scientists in\u00a0the format of a\u00a0Science Caf\u00e8. This part was\u00a0partially prepared by the roman high schools students who joined the preparatory project \u201cThe long and fascinating journey of stem cell research\u201d organized by Adamas Scienza.<\/p>\n
\nThe talks did not only relate to\u00a0stem cells, the way they work and the opportunities they represent for the treatment of serious degenerative diseases, but also the challenges of the scientific and economic impact of biotechnology, the nature of science, the basis\u00a0of the scientific method, the role\u00a0of science in society.<\/p>\n
\nPreparatory activities and the Roman event, coordinated by Adamas Scienza, were created in collaboration with science teachers from several schools in the roman area.<\/p>\n
